Mix up brief

•Dates: Phase 1: 13 August - 27 August, Phase 2 07 September -24 September
Design a mixed use building within an urban park at the south end of Marshalltown. The building should be used 24h/ day and be an integral part of the park. Design a place for a broad audience, residents and visitors, a space where you would like to go to on a sunny Sunday or meet a friend on a free evening.
Requirements building/ guidelines:
Multipurpose hall for 100/200/ 300/ 400 people (dividable)
Kitchen
Toilet block
Storage space
Services
Internet Café
Bar/ kitchen
Toilet block
Crèche/ child care
Toilet block
Gallery/ exhibition space
2-3 bedroom Apartment for care take, incl. kitchen, bathroom, living and dining space
10 b&b rooms with bathrooms

Additional residential units optional

4 classrooms for evening school/ ABET training
Additional programme optional in accordance with concept
Services like toilets/ reception can be shared if general layout accommodates it.

Carefully integrate possible winds, sun and rains into your spatial and material development (look at solar energy, water catchment/ re-use etc)
Carefully plan communal indoor and outdoor spaces in order to provide a relevant spatial setting for the mix up urban park in Marshalltown. Take the public interface of the building into consideration in the design process.
